A popular focused search engine primarily meant for the users of the United Kingdom.
Requirement
The client needed to reorganize its search engine strategy to make it more profitable and keep up with the trend. It was also imperative that the search engine garnered more chunk of traffic than its competitors.
Solution
We eliminated the heavy graphics and redesigned the search engine to give it a lean yet elegant look. The search results were mixed up with some revenue generating adverts from various sources. The engine was integrated with paid per click (PPC) engines like Espotting and Overture, comparison shopping portals like Shopping.com and Kelkoo and local search using Thomson Local. Using a system that would detect the user’s location from the IP and localize the searches to his / her country further enhanced the engine.
To make the search engine results more relevant and intuitive, we modified some of its algorithms. For example, URLs like www.somedomain.co.uk/car_hire_london.html would be generated on search of keyword “car hire London”. A back end system would provide statistics on keywords being searched to help strategizing further. Also, a news aggregator was added to the search engine to attract more traffic and enhance mindshare.
Results
A jump in traffic through search engines and a still larger jump in revenues through tight integration of pay per click advert in the main engine.
